Branchburg Martial Arts, a TaeKwonDo Academy
Somerset County Police Youth Week

Doug Van Beveren, a talented black belt here at the academy, successfully completed the Somerset County Police Youth Week program at Raritan Valley Community College. The program is hosted each summer by the Somerset County Police Academy. The objectives of the program are to introduce high school youths to a career in law enforcement, develop positive interaction between students and members of law enforcement, and develop the concepts of teamwork and self-confidence. The program is conducted through both classroom and practical exercises, as well as “hands on” experience. Doug’s squad was also named “Top Squad” this year.

The Black Belt Wall

The Black Belt Wall is open to any student regardless of age or rank who is dedicated to earning their 1st degree Black Belt. Here is how it works. The BLACK BELT WALL will consist of embroidered Black Belts with the students name in English and in Korean with the appropriate number of Black Belt degree stripes. So even current Black Belts can be motivated by looking at their 2nd degree belt on the wall. All you have to do is fill out the "Pledge Card" and pay $30 to process the belt order. The belts, of course, still have to be earned and will remain on the wall until they are. Earning a 1st degree Black Belt is definitely a long term goal, but when you can look up at your belt after a hard workout, you or your child will know all those kicks and pushups were worth it.
